Gravel Grinder News: Pirelli Tires, I-9, PEdALED – by Guitar Ted

Although the cycling industry is reeling from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide, there still is some activity, and believe it or not, new things being introduced. Today in Gravel Grinder News we have stories about a new distributor for Pirelli Tires in the U.S., a debut of some Industry 9 wheels for 2021 (!!), and some new duds from a comapany called PEdALED.

KASK America Announces Distribution of Pirelli’s Cycling Tire Line in the US: Pirelli Tires, a well known entity in sports car, racing, and European markets, has been pursuing the cycling market for the past few years. Their impact on the U.S. market has been pretty small. You may not know that Pirelli has gravel road tires, for instance.

Having KASK America distribution should help to change this perception though. Furthermore; Spinergy Wheels just announced a new promotion which includes Pirelli Tires. With the purchase of any gravel wheel set from Spinergy at retail cost, the buyer can include the code FREETIRES at check-out on Spinergy’s website and receive a set of Pirelli gravel tires free. This promotion is for the North American market only and ends on May 31st, 2020. As an added bonus Spinergy is also offering free shipping during this promotion. NOTE: Riding Gravel is in no way connected to this offer and can not be held responsible for any changes in, or termination of, the promotion.

Industry 9 Announces 2021 Wheel Range: Indutry 9, the North Carolina based wheel manufacturer, has announced some product for 2021 available now. First up is a road bike compatible version of their 1/1 hubs.

The 1/1 hubs from Industry 9 are now in road bike form.

According to their website:

Bringing the proven technology from our 1/1 mountain hubs, 1/1 road offers a reliable hub platform that stays true to the performance heritage known from Industry Nine in a budget friendly package. A direct descendent from our mountain life, the 1/1 hubs are engineered with high capacity bearings, ready for anything the road or trail can throw at them. Constructed with a dual phased-pawl drive mechanism with 90 points of engagement or 4° between engagement, the hubs offer rapid power transfer for rocketing out of corners or ratcheting through uneven terrain. Utilizing the same construction as our 1/1 mountain bike hubs, the 1/1 gravel line is perfect for any route that involves gated off forest service roads, bikepacking or bomb proof road builds.

MSRP starts at $289.00

Their gravel specific wheels, the ULTRA250 TRA and the UL250 CX are refreshed for 2021 with a slightly wider inner rim width at 25mm. Same color options remain with their solid, colorful hubs and aluminum anodized spokes.

PEdAlED Offers New Odyssey Line For Ultra-Endurance Riders: PEdALED, a Japanese designed and Italian manufactured apparel line, has announced a new range of jerseys and bib shorts which feature multiple storage pockets, comfortable materials, and design elements for the long-range and ultra-endurance cyclist.

PEdALED says,” Informed by the needs of riders on events like the Transcontinental and Silk Road Mountain Races, we created the Odyssey Long Distance Jersey and Bib Shorts to be ready to go anywhere.

The Odyssey Jersey is made from materials which resist odor from multiple day use. The jersey is also claimed to be the first seven pocket jersey available. Featuring two lateral, three large for cargo, a zippered pocket for stashing valuables, and a large mesh pocket for storing wet clothes.

The Odyssey Bib Shorts carry on this theme of comfort and storage capabilities. There is a large mesh pocket on the back for storing things like extra layers. Below and underneath this are three storage pockets. The leg gripper area also features pockets for quick access to items that a rider may need like energy food or small tools, etc.

Both Odyssey range apparel items are made from a mix of polyamide and elastane materials, but if you are more of a wool type rider, then PEdALED has items that may meet your approval as well.
