The VERMONT GRAVEL CAMP presented by The Cycling Formula

Are you an experienced gravel racer looking to gain an edge – or simply a casual intermediate rider looking to learn more? Then come pedal the picturesque dirt roads and panoramic scenery of beautiful Vermont with us! Our camp is focused on gravel and “adventure” style riding and will include gravel roads & unmaintained historic roadways of storied New England. All rides are coached by Cycling Formula coaches as well as amazing guest coaches, such as gravel racing legend Mike Barton.
The Vermont Gravel Camp is not intended to be easy – just ask any camper from the past two years! You will be challenged both physically and mentally, all while experiencing a maximum dose of adventure and excitement! Athletes at the 2019 Vermont Gravel Camp climbed over 16,000 feet and rode over 17 hours – all in two and a half days! If you are in search of “spa treatments” and lazy rides, this is simply not the camp for you. But if you are looking to be pushed harder than you’ve ever been pushed – in an adventurous atmosphere, filled with camaraderie and support – then this camp is the right place for you!
Gravel/Adventure cycling is one of the fastest growing sectors in endurance sports. It is truly the purest form of cycling, and a throwback to what cycling was like prior to asphalt. The sheer adventure of moving fast and efficiently over mixed surface roads is addictive, and just plain fun. We can’t wait to share all of the amazing terrain that Vermont has to offer…As well as partake in some of the incredible world-class beers from the area’s craft breweries.
THE PACKAGE INCLUDES:
Attendance at the 2020 Vermont Gravel Camp including all rides, seminars, & coach-led discussions.
Beautiful, mountainous, and rural Vermont roads that were made for EPIC gravel rides! (NOTE, you must be capable of maintaining 17-18 mph on open road). It is ideal that you have some off-road cycling experience. If you are unsure of your skill level, please contact us. If we feel you may be on the fence as far as skill and experience goes, we might prescribe a pre-camp training plan to prepare you for the rigors of camp.
Access to Cycling Formula coaches and guest coaches for the duration of the camp.
4-wheel drive, off-road SAG vehicle that will be covering the route that day. SAG will have ample water & sport drink as well limited food items. SAG vehicle will be stocked to fix flats and take care of other minor repairs, however we strongly urge you to pack your bike so that you are self-sufficient in case you suffer a flat tire in an area where a vehicle cannot get to you easily or quickly. Being prepared will allow you to get back up and running much quicker than waiting around for the SAG. Riders may also keep a small bag of personal items (jackets, more food, etc.) in the vehicle.
Most Importantly: Post-ride, ice-cold Vermont Craft Beer!! Let’s celebrate our day’s achievements by partaking in some of Vermont’s finest local beers!
Tentatively planned tastings with local breweries such as Idletyme’s head brewmaster Will Gilson!
3-4 pairs of Normatec recovery boots, for athletes to utilize throughout the camp. The Round Hearth has a great room for this that we’ve dubbed the “Recovery Room”. * Camp attendees are also eligible for a discount on purchasing Normatec Boots!
Lodging at the Round Hearth. Round Hearth is a “ski dorm / ski academy” focused facility that accommodates athletes and adventure seekers. Your fellow guests at the lodge may include hikers taking a break from the Long Trail or world-famous Appalachian Trail. It’s certainly not the Park Plaza, so don’t think you’re getting mints on your pillows, but you’ll have a whole room to yourself to relax and unwind after each long ride! And time spent socializing with other campers sitting at the large dining tables – or with a cold beer while playing a game of billiards – is truly part of the Vermont Gravel Camp experience!
Breakfast and post-ride meals, provided by the Round Hearth. Meals included – Fri: Dinner, Sat: Breakfast & Dinner, Sun: Breakfast & light lunch.
The Cycling Formula will provide some fueling, courtesy of our partners at UnTapped All Natural Athletic Fuel. Be sure to bring some of your own, however, as these will be challenging rides that will require you to plan your fueling accordingly! You’re going to pedaling and climbing a LOT!
