Gravel Grinder News: STORMCHASER GRX 810 1X SUS Debuts

Gravel Grinder News: STORMCHASER GRX 810 1X SUS Debuts – by Guitar Ted

When Salsa Cycles introduced the STORMCHASER in 2020, some folks were a bit surprised that there was no geared option made available simultaneously with the single speed. Well, if that was you, your wait is now over as Salsa Cycles announced today that they have a new STORMCHASER GRX 810 1X SUS model. That’s a long handed version of saying that the STORMCHASER is now available geared and with a suspension fork.

The new STORMCHASER GRX 810 1X SUS is set to make a splash in the gravel scene for 2022.

The new STORMCHASER variant will come equipped with the same sliding type drop outs that will allow the user to set up the bike single speed. However; it will not be available with the carbon fork the original STORMCHASER bikes had. This one will feature the new Rock Shox Rudy XPLR 40 mm fork. Further rowdiness will be inspired, no doubt, by the addition of a TransX YSP38 dropper post and big, puffy Teravail Rutland 47mm tires. (The Rutlands were reviewed here by Riding Gravel) The drive train will be a 1X with a Race Face crank set and a 38T Race Face chain ring which will propel a Shimano SLX 11-42T 11 speed cassette. That will be shifted by Shimano GRX 810 levers and rear derailleur. The brakes and hubs are also Shimano spec on the new STORMCHASER.

The STORMCHASER still features the Class V VRS System for damping out vibrations.

Out back the 6066 T-6 aluminum frame features the same Class V VRS vibration reduction system that is a Salsa gravel bike trademark. The frames in the larger of the seven sizes offered also feature two down tube mounted bottle mounts, and all have a bottle mount underneath the down tube. Of course, there is one seat tube mounted bottle boss set up as well. The top tube features the two-bolt top tube bag mounts which align perfectly with Salsa’s own top tube bag and many others which have the same two bolt attachment option.

Prices for the STORMCHASER GRX 1X SUS model are U.S. MSRP $3,499.00, and CAD MSRP $4,649.00. For more details see www.salsacycles.com or your local Salsa Cycles dealer.

  1. Please tell me bikes aren’t following the lead of cars these days…everything black or gray. Maybe I’m the only one getting tired of bikes coming out in black and gray. So drab. Give me a color that pops…any color.
