Almanzo Events To Take Place Under New Management

<Back to News Home |

The Almanzo 100, Royal 162, and Alexander routes have been  very popular free to enter gravel road racing events which have been under the direction of event producer Chris Skogen since 2007. Earlier this year, Riding Gravel learned that the Almanzo events would not be taking place in 2015.

Subsequently, a grassroots movement to hold an “unofficial” Almanzo, dubbed the “Almanzo Lives” on the very weekend that the Almanzo 100 was traditionally held on, sprung up. Today, it was learned, the Almanzo events have been handed over by Chris Skogen to the Spring Valley Minnesota Tourism Committee.  Mr. Skogen is quoted from the latest Almanzo blog post as follows: “After speaking closely with the folks at the Spring Valley Tourism Committee, I have decided to hand over the reigns. Yes. There will be an Almanzo.

The events are still free and entry is still being handled by post card. Check out the RidingGravel.com events page for an updated entry reflecting this news and for other gravel road based events.
