Gravel Grinder News: HED Wheels Debuts Emporia GC3 Carbon Wheelset – by Guitar Ted
HED Wheels, the Minnesota U.S.A. based maker of wheels, perhaps best known for their aerodynamic qualities, has released a new wheel in their Emporia range today. Dubbed the Emporia GC3, it features design cues from HED’s Vanquish RC Pro and Vanquish RC Pro Performance Series wheels and has a 30mm rim depth. HED also features a 26mm inner rim width on the new GC3 wheels which HED claims will ‘open up’ a tire and help it perform at its best.
Here is a bit of the press release from HED describing the features of the new Emporia GC3 wheels:
“The Emporia GC3 Performance is an all-carbon gravel wheel set, designed and produced by hand by HED in
Minnesota. The rim design borrows heavily from HED’s Pro grade carbon gravel wheels, the Emporia GC3 Pro, but at
a more accessible price point, $1,650 per wheel set.”
The wheel set weight is a claimed 1545 grams and is available only in 700c from today at HED Wheels. The hubs are HED’s own HED Performance hubs drilled with 24 holes each. These are laced with Sapim Race DB spokes 2X to the GC3 rims. Those rims, as mentioned, have a 26mm internal width and a 31mm external width. Rim weight is a claimed 405 grams each. The GC3 has a minimum recommended tire width of 32mm.
