Gravel Grinder News: Gravel Cycling Hall of Fame Installs Inaugural Class – by Guitar Ted
Emporia, Kansas: Last Wednesday evening in Emporia, Kansas’ Grenada Theater, the inaugural class of the Gravel Cycling Hall of Fame was installed. The hall was announced last January and the initial class was chosen by a “democratic process”, as defined by the Gravel Cycling Hall of Fame’s LeLan Dains.
Inductees were selected from a pool of rider-generated submissions. Each submission had to be cleared with the potential nominee or their family/representatives. Each submission was to have a convincing story submitted along with it. After nominations were closed, a committee of current and past gravel event promoters, athletes, media, and industry people voted on who would be included into the inaugural class.
The inaugural class of the Gravel Cycling Hall of Fame includes:
- Kristi Mohn
- Rebecca Rusch
- Corey Godfrey
- Dan Hughes
- Chris Skogen
- Mark “Guitar Ted” Stevenson
- Bobby Wintle
The Gravel Cycling Hall of Fame installed this class on Wednesday, June 1st at the Grenada Theater in downtown Emporia. Kansas. An after-party was held at the nearby Gravel City bicycle shop where inductees were mingling with the public. There is a small display of gravel cycling history inside the shop, which will serve as the physical home for the GCHoF until a permanent home is found.
The GCHoF plans on another round of inductees to be installed next year during the Unbound Gravel week in Emporia.
Congrats, Mark. Well deserved.
